Deirdre Mathews

Biography:

Deirdre started her playing career with Trinity HC and after graduating played for Muckross HC where she was a member of their successful team of the 90s winning numerous Leinster leagues & cups. She also won three All Ireland Leagues and the Irish Senior Cup. She played in four European Cups, twice in the A Division. Deirdre’s representative career included captain of three winning Interprovincial tournaments. The pinnacle of her career was her 32 caps for Ireland from 1985 – 91.

Off the pitch Deirdre has served on the Muckross HC Committee in various roles most notably as Club President from 2019-2023.

An experienced coach, Deirdre has spent many years coaching in the junior and senior sections of Muckross HC and was Head Hockey coach in Holy Child Killiney from 2004 – 21. She also served as President of the Leinster Schools Committee for two years. As well as playing outdoor, Deirdre also played Indoor Hockey for two seasons.
